Green Pool?
We Got It.
Bought a house with a swamp in the backyard, or the cover failed over winter. It is recoverable, it is not a drain and refill, and it usually takes about a week.
Green Pool Cleanup in Wayne NJ, Explained Honestly
A green pool cleanup is a chemistry job on a deadline, not a cleaning job. The green is living algae, and until it is dead and filtered out no amount of scrubbing changes anything.
The instinct is to drain it and start over. That is almost always the wrong call. Draining a pool risks the shell floating out of the ground on high water table, cracking plaster in the sun, and it costs a fortune to refill. Recovering the water is cheaper, faster and safer.
We recover pools across Bergen, Passaic, Morris and Essex Counties, including ones that have been sitting untouched for months.
What a recovery involves
- Full water test to find out what is actually wrong before adding anything
- Debris removed — leaves, branches and whatever else went in over the months
- Shock treatment dosed to the pool volume, not guessed
- Algae scrubbed off the walls, floor and steps so the chemicals can reach it
- Filter run continuously and cleaned repeatedly as it loads up with dead algae
- Multi step chemistry over several days until the water holds clear on its own
Why it takes days and not hours
Killing algae is fast. Getting the dead algae out of the water is what takes time, and it is entirely limited by your filter. The water usually turns from green to cloudy grey within a day, which looks alarming but is actually the sign it is working.
From there it is filtering, cleaning the filter, and filtering again. A pool with a healthy filter can be clear in three or four days. A pool with an undersized or clogged filter takes longer, and sometimes the honest answer is that the filter needs replacing first.
What we tell you before we start
Whether it is recoverable, roughly how long it will take, and whether anything on the equipment pad is going to hold it up. Some pools have a failed pump or a filter that is finished, and no amount of chemistry fixes that.
If a pool genuinely cannot be recovered we say so rather than taking the money and trying. That is rare, but it happens with pools that have been sitting for years.
After it is clear
A recovered pool is fragile for a couple of weeks. The chemistry is still settling and the algae will come straight back if it is left alone. Most recovery clients move onto weekly service afterwards, which is the honest way to keep it from happening again.
What a real green pool cleanup is judged on
A green pool cleanup, what the trade calls a green to clean, is not finished when the water looks clear. It is finished when the chlorine holds overnight without dropping, which is the test that proves the algae is actually dead rather than just suspended. Anyone who leaves before that number holds is coming back.
Industry guidance for this region comes from the Northeast Spa and Pool Association, the trade body for pool professionals across the northeast. We work to those standards because a green pool cleanup job done to a real standard is the one you do not pay for twice.

How a Recovery Runs
A green pool cleanup usually runs three to seven days depending on how far gone it is and how well the filter keeps up.
Assessed
Water tested, debris pulled, and an honest read on whether the equipment can carry the recovery before anything is dosed.
Shocked
Chlorine dosed to the actual pool volume, high enough to kill the bloom rather than feed it.
Scrubbed
Walls, floor and steps brushed so the chemicals reach the algae that is holding on to surfaces.
Filtered clear
Filter runs continuously and gets cleaned repeatedly until the water holds clear and chlorine stops dropping overnight.
